Time/Temperature and Moisture Dependence of Adhesion to Glass of Lightguide Primary Coatings
18 April 1988
A method has been developed to measure the primary coating-to-glass adhesion in-situ in the shear mode. The resistance to adhesive failure has been found to depend on temperature, loading rate and ambient moisture, so these parameters have been controlled. Data and analysis here combine the temperature and rate variables by time-temperature superposition for a universal description of the coating-to-glass adhesion of a proprietary coating system. Separately, the moisture sensitivity of adhesion to glass has been determined for several coating systems. Such results allow the efficient characterization of the adhesion performance of primary coatings with a greater understanding of total behavior.
