Real-time monitoring and control of the network through a coordinated set of network management operations centers assures optimum call-carrying capacity during periods of stress caused by overloads and failures. Switching systems are controlled and monitored in detail in specific geographical areas at the 27 Network Management Centers (NMCs) that blanket the country. Regional Operations Centers (ROCs) coordinate NMC activities within each of the ten switching regions, and monitor and control the regional switching and signaling systems.
