Traffic Grooming Decisions in Optimal Ring Design
30 May 2003
Purpose of this study is to understand the impact of various network parameters and the network topology on grooming efficiency. The objective of the grooming decision is to minimize the network cost -- defined as the sum of the lightpath costs in the network. Analogous to [1], we define a lightpath as an optical connection between two line terminals. Typically, the lightpath cost consists of the termination cost -- comprising the port cost and the cross-connect fabric cost, and the transport cost -- comprising the regeneration and the amplification costs.
