01 January 1991
This paper describes the traffic management function for corporate utility networks. As users move towards consolidating multiple applications and protocols on a common backbone network the task of network management and control becomes quite complex. The role of traffic management is toproactively manage network resources from a traffic and performance point of view to ensure that the network delivers high quality of service while operating at peak efficiency. An overall framework for traffic manegement is proposed and key issues central to an effective functional architecture are emphasized.
