The development and testing of the software for the Traffic Service Position System No. IB (TSPS No. IB) was a complex undertaking. In addition to emulating the existing TSPS No. 1 assembly-level program, 3B20 Duplex Processor (3B20D) native-mode (C-language) software was developed to interface to the Duplex Multi-Environment Real Time (DMERT) operating system and to provide the necessary system integrity functions for the TSPS No. IB.1,2 To support software development and testing in this mixed emulation/native mode, it was recognized early in the project that a robust Software Development System (SDS) and a rigorous set of standard software development procedures (or methodology) were necessary. Thus, basic requirements for tools, documentation standards, and control procedures were established for the software development environment for the TSPS No. IB. These requirements specified that: (i) A simple, interactive user interface to the SDS must be developed. Where possible, commands and procedures for emulation or 859
