Transfer Operators and the Evaluation of Cellular Systems

A major obstacle in the performance analysis of product-form cellular systems is the evaluation of the normalizing factor, or partition function. This is in great measure due to the large number of states. In this article, we show how the partition function may be evaluated by the method of transfer operators, long a standard technique in equilibrium statistical mechanics.
