Ultrafast optoelectronics.

This article reviews recent progress in high speed optoelectronics and its applications to the measurement of high speed electronic devices and materials. Basic device concepts using photoconducting and electro-optic materials are described and their implementation in high speed measurement systems is illustrated with specific applications to discrete device and integrated circuit testing, high power switching, and radio frequency generation and detection. The article concludes with a discussion of current challenges and possible future trends.
