Many types of messaging services and products currently exist including, network and premises-based electronic mail applications, telex and facsimile services, voice mail systems, and attendant-based call coverage services. Frequently, however, there are marked disparities in user interfaces, addressing schemes, communication protocols, creation and retrieval methods, and alerting and notification mechanisms.
