Unix Streams and Interprocess Communication

When processes wish to communicate, they must first establish, and then decide what to say. The stream mechanisms of Eighth Edition Unix, already discussed in the literature [BTTLJ 63, #8] provide a convenient way for processes to speak with devices, including network interfaces, and with each other.
