Use of Anisotropically Conductive Elastomers in High Density Separable Connectors
01 January 1989
The use of conventional pin and socket technology for high performance, separable connectors will become increasingly difficult as the density of interconnects increases. Compression interconnections offer advantages for this application, and designs based on this technology have been reported. In these designs an array of electrical contacts is pressed against a matching array of contacts to form the separable interconnection. In this method a major difficulty to be overcome is the accommodation of short and long range tolerance variations in the coplanarity of the matching arrays which may result in unreliable performance due to poor electrical contact.
