Using Statistical Techniques to Improve the Code Inspection Process

Code Inspections [1] have been used very effectively at AT&T Bell Laboratories in the development of 5ESS(TM) Switch software. Data collected from more than 900 individual code inspections was analyzed to determine the amount of preparation time needed, the rate at which code should be inspected, and the distribution of error densities discovered at inspections.
