Views on an Electronic Materials Education
01 January 1987
The information industries, highlighted by the merging of computers and communications, have ushered in the Information Age with enormous consequence on the world economy. These industries are represented by cutting edge research, development and manufacture of electronic materials and employ a large number of graduates with materials- related backgroungs. Thus a comprehensive education in materials science and engineering (MSE) must incorporate electronic materials as an integral part of the curricula. In this article some views on the roles of traditional MSE departments and other materials-related departments such as physics, chemistry and electrical engineering are discussed.
