Voice Communication with Machines: Digital Technology for Speech Synthesis and Recognition

Explosive advances in microelectronics support great sophistication and relatively low cost in devices and systems for coding, synthesis and automatic recognition of speech signals. This talk draws a perspective on evolving capabilities in digital speech processing, and on techniques that relate to machine voice output, electronic mail, voice dialing and talker recognition.
