Voice over broadband: Need to re-evaluate end-to-end packet voice strategies
01 July 2003
The accelerating roll-out of broadband access compels service providers to re-evaluate their overall strategy for introducing packet voice in their networks. Where earlier strategies were heavily focused on introducing packet voice in backbone trunking networks, the reality of today is that packet-based voice solutions mainly find a ready market in the access/CPE network environment. This poses a choice for service providers to start with introducing packet voice in either the core network or the access network. End-to-end quality-of-service aspects are shown to be a constraint in the successful interworking between different networks.
