VSITE: A Scalable and Secure Architecture for Seamless L2 Enterprise Extension in the Cloud

Compared to "public" cloud computing such as Amazon's EC2, enterprise cloud computing involves an extended set of technical challenges. A key issue is that an enterprise would prefer am abstraction that views internal and cloud resources to be uniform in such a way that two, vene though the cloud re- sources live on a shared public infrastructure that is separate and foreign to on enterprise. This paper presents an end-to-end architecture, called VSITE, for seemless integration of cloud resources into an enterprise's intranet. VSITE allows a cloud provider to carve out its re- sources to serve multiple enterprisees simultaneously while maintaining isolation and security. VSITE is both scalable and efficient, and it facilitates common data center operation such as VM migration.
