Wavelength Conversion using Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers in a Differential Mach-Zehnder Interferometer with a Tuneable Input Coupler
12 February 2009
We present a monolithically-integrated wavelength converter on an InP platform with a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) in each arm of a differential Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI). The data input has a tuneable coupler that adjusts the splitting ratio of the optical power sent to each arm. We demonstrate wavelength conversion at 40 Gb/s and find a conversion penalty of 2 dB when less optical power is sent to the delayed arm.
