Wear Resistance of Nickel and Nickel Phosphorus Alloy Electrodeposits.

New Image

It has been demonstrated in earlier work that nickel (Ni/Cl) and nickel phosphorus (Ni/P) electrodeposits with unique microstructures have substantially lower contact resistance values than typical matte or bright nickel deposits plated from a Watts of sulfamate bath. The Ni/P surface structure has predominately acicular star-like microscopic asperities of uniform height while the Ni/Cl surface structure, which is also acicular is distinguishable from the Ni/P by the presence of randomly dispersed gritty (sand-like) protrusions.
