Widely Tunable InGaAsP/InP Laser Based on a Vertical Coupler Intracavity Filter

We have integrated a broadly tunable grating-assisted vertical coupler as an intracavity filter to demonstrate a novel, monolithic InGaAsP/InP extended-cavity laser with measured electrical tuning range of 57nm. This new source offers potentially significant enhancement to a variety of lightwave systems, especially wavelength division multiplexed networks and switches.
