In addition, Nokia owns non-SEPs in technology areas of particular importance to the security systems industry, including video analytics, system management, event notifications and user interface. Together, these extensive portfolios underpin the cutting-edge technologies found in today's residential security systems, enabling robust performance and advanced features.

Licensing that enables IoT innovation at scale 

At Nokia, we believe that fair and balanced licensing is crucial for fostering innovation and ensuring a level playing field. We work constructively with companies across the IoT ecosystem to reach amicable agreements that make Nokia’s innovations available for licensees. This approach has allowed us to conclude patent license agreements across a wide range of IoT use cases and market segments. 

I’m delighted to see this approach delivering results in practice. We have already agreed licenses with three leading security system providers, including ADT in the U.S., demonstrating that constructive engagement and a shared commitment to fair licensing can lead to positive outcomes for all parties.

About Susanna Martikainen

Susanna Martikainen is Chief Licensing Officer, Wireless Technologies, and leads Nokia’s patent licensing programs for mobile devices, consumer electronics, automotive, and IoT. During her 20-year career at Nokia, Susanna has played a major role in structuring and negotiating patent license agreements with many major licensees, and managed complex patent enforcement projects including large-scale FRAND arbitrations. Susanna is also involved in IP strategy, business development, transactions and regulatory matters. She has a master's degree in law from Helsinki University.
