Nokia Optical Network
Services Expert Certification
Learn the technologies, skills, and best practices
required to configure, manage, and deploy differentiated
services on a Nokia optical based network.
Become an Optical Network Services Expert
The Nokia Optical Network Services Expert is an intermediate level certification in the ONC program. The Nokia Optical Network Services Expert is designed for engineers who want to become experienced in Optical Networks, from the basic challenges related to transport technologies, to key aspects of network design, service provisioning, and optical network management.
This is achieved using a comprehensive 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS)-based platform, managed by the Nokia Network Services Platform (NSP). In particular, the Network Functions Manager for Transport (NFM-T) is used during classes to complete labs and exercises. In addition to successfully completing the required written exams, the Nokia Optical Network Services Expert also requires candidates to pass a practical lab exam.

Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Nokia Optical Network Service Expert, students will have developed in-depth working knowledge in areas such as:
Wavelength Division Multiplexing networks and node architectures, Layer 0 and Layer 1 switching and Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) networks.
NSP/NFM-T network management system and basic use of the 1830 Engineering and Planning Tool (EPT).
Nokia Optical Network Services Expert also includes several elective courses, reflecting the different services enabled by Nokia optical networks: GMPLS-controlled Optical Networks, Optical Transport for Mobile Services, and Integrated Packet Transport over WDM.

Three key dates to remember
Please keep these important dates in mind and organize your recertification activities around them:
- Certification date: The day your certification was awarded.
- Certification expiry date: The day three years from when your certification was awarded. Note – If you pass a recertification requirement, the expiration and termination dates for your certifications will be reset to the date that you wrote the exam.
- Certification termination date: The day your certification terminates if you do not successfully complete the recertification requirements within 6 months after your expiry date.
