Sohini Sarkar

Biography

Sohini Sarkar earned her B.Sc. from Presidency College and her M.Sc. from the University of Calcutta in Kolkata. She completed her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune, where she investigated ultrafast carrier dynamics in nanocrystals using time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy. During her postdoctoral research at the University of Southern California, she explored interfacial electric fields through surface-sensitive spectroscopy combined with electrochemical techniques. In January 2023, she joined the Data and Devices team at Nokia Bell Labs as a Bio Optics Research Engineer. Her current work focuses on developing advanced, non-invasive optical tools for high-resolution, 3D imaging and analysis of biological systems. In parallel, she is exploring the frontiers of quantum communication—leveraging the unique properties of photons to push the boundaries of secure, high-speed, long-distance information transfer.
