AT&T Designs a Winning Computer System for the U.S. Government

The U.S. Government, one of the world's largest users of computer systems, recently took steps to address problems that are common in the computer world: isolated databases, incompatible equipment, and systems unable to grow or evolve. In a stiff competition that drew a virtual who's who of the computer industry, AT&T emerged the winner of the government's Standard Multiuser Small Computer Requirements Contract (AFCA 251). Newspapers called it the computer contract of the century.
