Impact of DFE on Soft-Input LDPC Decoding for 50G PON

The DFE induces correlated errors and distorts the LLR distribution at its output leading to a performance penalty with respect to the AWGN channel for soft-input decoding of the 50G PON DS LDPC code. Bit-interleaving across multiple codewords improves the performance by mitigating the impact of correlated errors, but a residual penalty that can be attributed to the LLR distortion induced by the DFE remains.
