We investigate the influence of polarization scattering due to inter-channel cross-phase modulation (XPM) on the performance of polarization-assisted optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring techniques in a dense wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) system. We show that the XPM induced polarization scattering can induce large errors dependent on the channel spacing, channel number and relative polarization states.
