Integrated Network Resource Planning & Deployment

We describe our attempts at unifying planning and implementation activities for deploying resources in AT&T's network. We discuss the inherent challenges in provisioning network resources, based on forecasts, requiring large capital outlays in advance of potential revenues generated by customer utilization. We describe the benefits of such unification, for example, in the use of global optimization and its last-minute fine tuning at implementation before making final deployment decisions.
