Integrated Optics for Photonic Switching
23 July 1992
Photonic switching has been an important potential application of integrated optics (IO) from its inception. Indeed, the first multicomponent integrated-optic circuit was a 4x4 switch array on lithium niobate. While other IO devices such as modulators or passive splitters are likely to find earlier applications, photonic switching and networking remain as important potential applications of integrated optics.
