Integrating Hospital Information: A Radiology Operations System as an Example
20 October 1988
During the past three decades Hospitals have been implementing administrative hospital information systems with clinical support systems for labs, pharmacy, etc. In general these systems have been developed as independent systems. Providing an integration of data from all of these systems has become essential in order to provide efficient, cost effective, health care. This paper describes one example of information integration for users of Radiology services through the implementation of the Radiology Operations Systems (ROS) Concept. This concept integrates the functions of a Picture Archival and Communications System interfaced to a Hospital Information System.
