Intelligent Network Services: Signaling and Architecture

Extensions to Signaling System 7 (SS7) make possible a wide variety of new services in an Intelligent Network (IN). This paper provides a brief overview of such services, and profiles their evolution from the early service specific architectures of 1987-88 through the service independent architectures of the later (1989) services and on towards the 1990's architectures which will include much greater flexibility for voice and data.
