With the increasing high bandwidth application occurrence in wireless systems, multimedia broadcast/multicast service is proposed with the benefit that the data is sent once on each link. MBMS is a point-to-multipoint service in which data is transmitted from a single source entity to multiple recipients. The study found that with evolved UTRA it would be feasible to operate point to multipoint transmissions as a single frequency network and benefit from energy combining without experiencing inter-cell interference. SFN reception is transparent to the terminal, however the increased inter node B node synchronization requirement should be taken into account in designing evolved UTRAN. This paper discusses four candidates of node synchronization scheme, and then proposed a distributed synchronization scheme via air interface based on the idle periods in downlink.
