Inter-Office Signaling Maintenance Capabilities of the AT&T 5ESS(TM) Switch
01 January 1987
The AT&T 5ESS(TM) Switch is a time-division digital switching system supporting many network applications. These applications include private network, local, toll, international gateway, and operator services. In support of these services, the 5ESS(TM) Switch system offers cost-effective, flexible and reliable mechanization of maintenance functions. This paper describes three of the 5ESS(TM) Switch maintenance products: Interoffice Signalling Call Failure Handling, Multi-Frequency Code Monitoring, and Trunk Error Analysis. These maintenance products are designed to control inter-office signalling irregularities through automatic detection, reporting, analysis, sectionalization, and recovery actions. The 5ESS(TM) Switch system manages irregularities for all inter-office trunk connections and signalling protocols and improves inter-office call reliability. This capability provides a powerful tool for the office administration to better understand network problems, particulary in networks containig olde technology switching equipment.
