Interconnections for high-density packaging

The development of integrated circuits has made possible packing densities of a hundred times greater than could be achieved using conventional components. The limiting factor in packaging is now the means of interconnecting the separate integrated circuits. Methods of interconnection are discussed, including the mounting of circuits on single layer and multi-layer printed circuit boards, and the problems of back-wiring and plug-in connections.
