Service providers are implementing multi-technology, multi-vendor communication networks. These complex networks are used to offer a comprehensive set of services for both voice and data related services. End users expect service providers to offer these services in a seamless and transparent manner, regardless of their network complexity and technologies used. The complexity of the networks delivering these services requires thorough interoprability testing at both the network level and the Operations Support Systems (OSS) level, prior to field deployment. In addition, due to the intricacy of operating these networks, new approaches to network and service management are required. This paper will present a set of challenges that were encountered during interoperability testing of multi-vendor and multi-transport technologies in an industry interoperability lab.
