Interpolative vector quantization of color images.
01 January 1988
Interpolative vector quantization was devised to tackle the blocky coded images and the sensitive codebook problems produced by a usual vector quantizer. In addition, a few related topics for color picture coding are discussed in this report. Computer simulations demonstrated the success of this new coding technique for color image compression at the rates around 0.3 bits per pel. Some general background of vector quantization is also provided.
