Introduction to the Issue on Silicon Photonics

The papers in this special issue focus on the topic of silicon photonics. The objective of this issue is to highlight recent progress with future technology trends in the advancement of Silicon photonics. As been documented in the previous special issue, significant progresses have been made to utilize these emerging devices into sophisticated integrated circuits with many concept-proofing demonstrations into realistic products. Yet this field still presents huge opportunities for many new research innovation and development.
