Ultrafast optics and electronics has continued to be a very prolific field. As evidence of the enormous vitality of the field, one merely has to note the proliferation of femtosecond lasers in laboratories throughout the world. Indeed, the demand for ultrafast optical and optoelectronic technology has resulted in the commercialization of several sources, i.e., synchronously-pumped dye lasers, colliding-pulse mode-locked (CPM) dye lasers, fiber-grated compressors, and electrooptic samples.
