The Internet presents several opportunities to change the way people live: Ebay allows people to sell and buy articles over the web, Napster allows people to buy single songs and download them onto portable gagdets, there are hundreds of casinos allowing people to lose money without leaving the comfort of their house. One of the media that remained untouched was Television; for years the media reported a battle betweem the TV and the web as people struggled to have time for both. New developments in the technology have started a new media revolution, the birth of Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). Now people would be able to use their TV to surf the web and interact with TV shows. What was once called the opium of the masses has got a new kick. Although IPTV has created new opportunities for traditional voice and data carriers, the technology also comes with a high level of risk from the attacks of fraudsters and hackers. However, with the proper planning, development and impelementation of effective security processes, this risk can be managed efficiently and cost-effectively. This document covers the different aspects of the technology and security measures required to attain an appropriate security level, reducing the impact of threats on the operation of the service.
