We report the observation of icosahedral structure in a new alloy system: Melt-spun Al(84)V(16). In the 'as cast' alloys homogeneous large icosahedral grains with an average diameter of about 2 microns are observed. From high resolution STEM X-ray analyses the compositional homogeniety in and around the grains are determined. We discuss the structural studies on i(AL-V) in terms of known structures of the related crystalline alloys, and the relevance of a recent `modified-projection- approach' by Elser in generating the icosahedral structure from six-dimensional lattice.
