The proven and potential applications of these dramatic changes in fluorescence parameters are discussed. The preparation of appropriate substrates is described. The generality of this phenomenon and the consequences of surface chemistry is outlined. Finally, the application of these substrates for reduction of quenching interference in fluorometric analysis is demonstrated.
