Multimode Interference Couplers with Tunable Power Splitting Ratios

New, compact multimode interference couplers with tunable power splitting ratios have been realised. Experiments show large tuning ranges. Such couplers are needed to optimize on-off ratios in interferometric devices and may find applications as extremely compact switches.
