New avenues of revenues — Open access and infrastructure virtualization

Today's optical access networks hardly leverage the full networking potential offered by fibers. By merging the metro and access segments into a common open infrastructure a versatile grid can be established for providing multiple parallel services over optics in an efficient and flexible way. A suitable network approach is outlined.
