New Efficient Architectures for RF Pulse Width Modulators
02 June 2013
This paper presents a new architecture for RF pulse width modulation (RF-PWM). RF-PWM provides high coding efficiency and high signal quality. The new architecture allows for very efficient and simple implementation of this modulator concept. Even for the 2.6Ghz band, the modulator can be built with standard components. Essential operations can be executed digitally in the baseband. The basic architecture allows for several concept variants with the same hardware platform. The concept supports binary output alphabet can be as well as M-ary output alphabets and is mainly dedicated for employment in energy efficient switch mode amplifiers. Finally we present an architecture which is capable of providing M-ary RF-PWM signals, while only deploying one switching device
