NMR Spectroscopy and Polymer Microstructure: The Conformational Connection
01 January 1989
It is our purpose to demonstrate the techniques, both experimental and theoretical, used to assign the high resolution sup 13 C NMR spectra of polymers observed both in solution and in the solid. Brief descriptions of the pulsed techniques used to obtain high resolution solution spectra in the Fourier transform mode of operation are presented including the INEPT, DEPT and 2D-NMR COSY and NOSY techniques. The methods of cross-polarization, high power proton decoupling, and magic angle spinning used to achieve high resolution solid state spectra are also mentioned. Application of these techniques to determine the microstructures of synthetic homo- and copolymers and the structures of biological macromolecules are presented in the various Chapters.
