Noise in M-750 type magnetron
14 November 1953
The method of noise measurement is explained followed by an account of the effects on signal/noise ratio of load, operating point and output circuit. It is concluded that the magnetron, properly used, will give a s./n. ratio of >60 db as was originally expected. It has a wide operating range and gives stable operation. It can be used quite satisfactorily as a transmitting valve in the 4 kMc/s p.t.m. system, but the use of the rear end of the pulse is to be preferred. The importance of s./n. ratio in magnetron design is discussed.
