We summarize the results of a discussion meeting at ICSM'88 on transient photoconductivity in trans-polyacetylene. Based on the intensity, temperature and polarization ependences of the transient absorption and photoconductivity, it is argued that photogenerated charged solitons cannot be completely responsible for the observation of picosecond photoconductivity on trans- polyacetylene.
