A suitable balanced circuit is discussed briefly which perform a simple addition in not more than 25 nanoseconds. It is concluded that at present there appears to be no definite advantage in this use of tunnel diodes over conventional circuits: there are however good prospects of commercial production of high speed tunnel diodes approaching picosecond operation. Further, the continued effectiveness of such diodes in the presence of nuclear radiation can be of great significance in certain applications.
