Novel Electro-Absortion Based Monolithic Photonic Integrated Source for Advanced Modulations

We report on the first monolithic PSK ElectroAbsorption Modulated Laser Transmitter based on prefixed optical phase switching. The circuit has been used to experimentally generate 12.4GB BPSK signal. However, simulations emphasize its potential for other digital and analog modulation formats. Speed scalability, small footprint and low power drive of the integrated source are attractive for advanced format migration towards low-cost applications.
