We have examined Al(86)Mn(7)Fe(7) and Al(86)Mn(14) melt-spun ribbons by TEM. The microstructure of both alloys consist of the coral-like, rosette shaped grains. Most of rosettes are single crystals, however, we have found in numerous occasions in which the coral-like branches of a single rosette have different crystographic orientations. Frequently these orientations are mirror symmetric, with the mirror plane perpendicular to a 5-fold axis of the icosahedral structure. Instances of this mirror relation seem to be much more common in the AlMnFe than in the AlMn.
