On-Line Control of Metal Processing.
01 January 1989
The National Materials Advisory Board Commissioned this report on On-Line Control of Metal Processing to assess the impact of advanced sensor technologies on materials processing. The report warns against sensor proliferation and develops a model for selection of control points. The fundamental elements of control theory and sensor technology are reviewed with examples of microstructural, compositional and geometrical measurement applications. The factors limiting progress in the installation of on-line control in manufacturing are summarized.
