On the Application of Hidden Markov Models for Enhancing Noisy Speech

We propose a new algorithm for enhancing noisy speech in the sense of improving its quality and/or intelligibility. The algorithm is developed for speech signals which have been degraded by statistically independent, stationary, additive noise, but it can be easily extended to situations where the noise is neither additive nor strictly stationary.
