On the Application of Hidden Markov Models for Enhancing Noisy Speech

SUMMARY: Enchancement of noisy speech could be optimally performed if the probability distribution's (PD's) of the source and the noise were known. In practice, however, these PD's are not known and the best that can be done is to use training sequences from the source and the noise through which the unknown statistics are adaptively learned by the enhancement algorithm.
